about
A note about the piece:
Brian and I met when we were 3 years old - we’ve known each other 92% of our lives. Brian and I went to Space Camp together when we were 8. Space was a focal point in Brian's and my life since we were very young.
Brian and I had a band called GALXE (pronounced galaxy) when we were 12. We had our first performance at my 12th birthday party - I was on drums and Brian was singing lead and playing guitar. Our first hit was “The Tragedy” about the death of Christa McAuliffe aboard the Challenger in 1986, when we were both 7 years old, an event that affected us deeply.
Here’s a lyric:
“72 seconds in the air,
but they weren’t aware,
what would happen out there…
but they didn’t go around the world tonight - the tragedy!”
Now we’re both 39 years old, and Brian and Krista are getting married. It felt natural for space and space exploration to be the central metaphor for a song about Brian and Krista’s coming into each other’s orbits.

Javier and I started writing this song the night before Brian’s bachelor party. We had come up with the general approach, metaphor, and chord changes. A party with a bunch of us usually involves a lot of music improvisation, so we planned a moment to play those chords as if we were improvising, start singing about space, and then ask Brian to take a turn singing. His lyrics and melodies have become central to the song:
“How can I be sure it’s all love, ?”
“into your arms..."
The last few seconds of the track are the original recording we made of Brian co-writing the song with us, without his knowing.

lyrics
If i were a star alone in space
How would I know my time and place?
Looking for life in the dark and cold
No sunrise and no one to hold
How can I be sure it’s all love? (waiting)
How can I define my origin?
There is a fire, and slow it grows
It burns at night before it shows
Pulling me, ever so softly,
From farther than I thought I could ever see
What is the source of this gravity?
Why does it feel like ecstasy?
Falling forward
Into your arms / My arms are open
Falling toward you
Into your heart
Falling forward
Into your arms
I’m moving too fast, i’m feeling cold,
Trying to keep a grip with nothing to hold
Fusion shaking everything out of place
Out of control in outer space
How do we create a galaxy?
What are you going to mean to me?
Reaching for you
My arms are open
Reaching toward you
My heart is here
Reaching for you
Into your arms
If we are two stars as one in space,
Then we can set our time and place
Playing out lives in the calm and surge,
Always getting closer but never merge
How does two become one?
How do we refine our origin?
Falling forward
Into your arms
Falling toward you
Into your heart
Falling forward
Into your arms
